Grrr…my post got deleted yet again…this time..the title remained but the text disappeared so here I find myself having to retype it.

The post I’d written on this was on of comtemplation. Something that had been bugging me since I read this small quote or poem in the book ‘Daughter of China’ by Meihong Xu and Larry Engelmann. It is truely an amazing book and does give you an insight to the chinese regime during that period. You learn a lot about Chinese history.

The poem that caught my eye and made me think was the following:

Toward heaven
Which will judge me in the end
I lift my head

Wind may sweep me away
But for my heart I reserve the right
To refuse to be counted among the lucky

By Shu Ting

You may ask, ‘what do I mean by that poem?’, ‘what is she going on about?’. Well…think about your every day life, your freedom of speech (I know, political correctness), your freedom to make your own decisions. If we went to live in a country were all this would be denied…would you take it for granted again? Already…so many of us take this for granted. We don’t appreciate we live in a country were WE make the choices..for example we vote for the government we want…where there are in so many other countries corruption, no political freedom, having to watch what you say. We could have so easily been born into a life there if our parents hadn’t made the decision to move countries, or luck wasn’t on your side when you were born. So…answer this…do you take your freedom for granted when you know there are others out there who would give anything to be in your position?

Yes. Reason no.1 - Human nature has been defined as such that humans can never be content with what they have.

Reason no.2 - My country fits half the description you gave of oppressive countries like banning [some] blogs [for a short period of time but was removed due to public pressure].

Reason no.3 - There is no country in this world where people have 100% freedom because if they had there would be disastrous effects.

Reason no.4 - Most democracies in developing countries are like elected dictatorship. Democracy isn’t always the best option but it works wonderfully when a nation is awake and the leaders want to do something for their nation rather than their pockets.

So yes I take freedom for granted but that’s just 50%. The other 50% says It’s good I’ve freedom to do whatever I want. So in theory I get back to what I said first - Human nature is never content. :-)
